Life Hack: A strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one’s time and daily activities in a more efficient or productive way.
Health food hack
There’s a hidden secret about food. Foods do exist that are insanely tasty AND insanely healthy. They’re just more difficult to keep stocked and it takes a bit of energy to figure out what those items are.
What if you spent the time to do real life personal research on which health foods YOU enjoy eating and then created a plan to incorporate those foods into your diet?
Right now your grocery shopping is a habitual stroll through the aisles… grabbing the same boxes and cans that you’ve been grabbing for years. The subconscious is running its standard program on which foods to put in the cart. Let’s shake that up a bit.
Here’s the hack:
- Step one: Slap yourself in the face. Now that you’ve got your attention, be honest with yourself about the health status of your diet. You eat much less healthy than you trick yourself into believing. (We all do!)
- Step two: Open the “notes” app on your phone. Make a list of items you know to be healthy, but also enjoy eating. This may take some research so grab the IPad and a cup of coffee. Here’s a link to Healthline for some ideas to get the juices flowing.
- Step three: Write a note and go stick it on the inside of your pantry / cabinet door that says: “Food Hack”
Thats it! That’ll do the trick!
Ok well, here’s why that’ll work: Every time you open the cabinet door to check your stock before going to the grocery store, you’ll see the note. Since you went through the effort to actually make the note and stick it on the door, your subconscious mind knows that it’s important to you.
The guilt from not acting in accordance with your previous decisions is not enjoyable. So in an effort to avoid that pain, I’m optimistic your grocery list will reflect the new mindset. Then soon enough, a magical thing occurs, this becomes a habit and the rest is history!
Tape your mouth shut!
Seriously, no one cares what you have to say, they probably wish they could tape your mouth shut to stop the nonsense that you’re spewing. Ok, ok that was bit harsh and honestly not even slightly related to this life hack…
This one is about sleep.
It’s 2021 now, aside from lots of negative happenings in the world right now, one thing is still beautiful. Science. The fact that we are so knowledgable compared to even just 10 years ago is pretty damn cool. If you’re into optimizing your brain like I am, then this hack is for you.
The research is piling up about sleep. How to get the best sleep and how much good sleep affects how our brains work. Well one of the leading hacks right now is breathing through your nose instead of your mouth. In fact, breathing through your nose instead of your mouth in general is so valuable for your cells, that it might be the most important health hack you can do.
Here’s the hack:
- Step one: Watch any number of these youtube videos on breathing:
- Ted Talk: Shut your mouth and change your life
- Tad Talk: Breathe to heal
- Joe Rogan podcast: “Mouth breather” James Nester
- Step two: Do a little online browsing for some mouth tape. My suggestion for your first mouth tape is the somnifix brand (no affiliation) because their tape has a small hole in the center that allows you to breathe through your mouth just a bit if need be. This gives a sense of security that you’re not going to suffocate whilst sleeping.
Side note on that topic… your body won’t let you suffocate. In fact, once you’re used to the tape… you will realize that you want a full mouth tape with no hole. The hole just lends itself you accidental mouth breathing, you’ll wake up groggy and be a bit disappointed that you slipped into the toxic sleep mouth breathing world for another night.
- Step three: Ignore your girlfriend, wife and friends when they make fun of your tape. After some time sleeping with your mouth shut, the extra nuerofunction will allow you to come up with some quick witty responses to their poking. And soon enough they’ll join the party.
Disclaimer: If you’re a hater and too stubborn to look into the mouth breathing research. Just remember, sometimes you’re stuck inside the box and don’t realize it. You might only be operating at 50% because your mouth is dry…
